Calando is a macOS menu bar application that helps you notice cognitive load and take recovery breaks. Your work data stays on your Mac.
What we collect on your device
- Input activity counts — keyboard and mouse event rates (not what you type or click)
- Foreground app identity — bundle identifiers of apps you focus on
- Focus sessions & recoveries — duration, type, and optional reflections you save
- Calendar busy/free state — only if you grant Calendar access, to avoid suggesting long breaks before meetings
- Settings — sensitivity preset, monitored apps, notification preferences
Where data lives
All of the above is stored locally in a SwiftData database on your Mac. We do not operate a cloud backend for your activity, sessions, or reflections.
What leaves your device
- Crash reports (optional) — if enabled in the build you installed, anonymous crash stack traces and app/OS version may be sent to Sentry for stability monitoring. No keystrokes, app content, or personal files are included.
- Software updates — Sparkle checks our update feed for new versions (standard HTTPS request).
We do not sell data. We do not use advertising or behavioral analytics.
Permissions
- Input Monitoring — count keyboard/mouse activity globally
- Accessibility — detect foreground app and input when global monitoring is unavailable
- Calendar (optional) — read free/busy to time recovery suggestions
- Notifications — deliver recovery prompts
You can revoke permissions anytime in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
